Is the barrel for this Sig Sauer R716G2 made to handle the chamber pressure of 308 ammo? I know that if the barrel is rated for a 308 cartridge then there's no problem shooting 7.62, but I've read that the 308 has a much higher chamber pressure so you're not supposed to use 308's in a 7;62 barrel.

Randall, correct, you can fire 7.62×51 threw a 308 but 308 has a higher chamber pressure and is not safe to fire threw a Barrel rated for 7.62×51. if you post again with the upc number can let you know what the barrels rated for because buds has several of them in stock and looking up R716G2 pops 10 different rifles up and some are rated for 308 and some are specifically 7.62×51. Randall, your assessment is correct. I still advocate contacting Sig Sauer, who maintains your warranty for their direct input at   603-610-3000 option 1 Monday-Friday, 8:30am-5:00pm EST. Many barrels use the same material these days and the only real difference is the stamp on the barrel. Cheers and stay safe!
