What is the difference between this shield and the California approved version, why is it that the California approved one more expensive? can I purchase this one instead?

This model does not have the required "Loaded Chamber" indicator on top of the slide Hu so you cannot substitute it in CA. There are also more of this model in stock to make it much lower in price than the CA approved model.
