In my opinion, it depends on application. I went with a lower cost Sig MSR and it works for me perfectly. I'm only using mine for plinking at less than 100yd distances. Also, take into consideration features a more expensive version might have over a lower cost dot. Battery placement/replacement. How many hours you'll get with dot on. Is there a shake awake feature or manual on/off like mine?

Felix, reviews on this are not the best. The biggest complaint seems to be the battery life. Others report problems after a few hundred rounds. This may be better suited for a rimfire or air rifle, just my opinion. If you want a red dot, I would spend the extra money and go for the Sig Romeo 5, which will co-witness with the sights on your M&P 15.
