Hi James. The Henry Homesteader is CA compliant and the magazine is not fixed, you just drop it out and pop in a new one. This does not have a pistol grip, thumbhole stock, telescoping stock, grenade launcher, flash suppressor, or foregrip, so it is perfectly legal in CA. James, yes sir, this is perfectly legal in California and no it doesn't have a fixed magazine. Just hit the magazine release to drop the mag. Hope this helps.
