Hi Dylan, It depends on which backstrap you are using. Your XD-M comes with 3 interchangeable backstraps, to provide you the added benefit of being able to customize the grip size to fit your hand perfectly. . The #1, #2, #3, tells you which backstrap it is compatible with. #1 is small, #2 is medium, #3 is large. Hi Dylan. The Springfield Armory XD(M) compact Pistol comes with (3) Back Straps - Small, medium on the pistol and large. Extensions #1, #2 and #3 corresponds to the unique contour on each. Just match the extension # to the backstrap you prefer to carry. #2 is the most common (Medium backstrap that comes on the pistol). Cheers and stay safe!
