Richard, this would be a fine choice for hunting. Browning makes great rifles and 308 is one of the best calibers out there for deer. If interested in different options here's a link to a Tikka tx3 lite with a 22.4 inch barrel wich would help with weight over the 26 inch barrel on the browning and when hunting every oz makes a difference.
