Hi Jimmy, The grip assembly, magazine, and slide cover are made of an impact-resistant glass-reinforced Nylon. The rear portion of the grip contains a steel frame which houses the firing mechanism, guides the slide, supports the magazine and ties the grip halves together. The pistol's serial number is engraved near this area, just above where the thumb would wrap around the rear of the grip. For image, see pg 6 of owners manual here >>> https://f.hubspotusercontent40.net/hubfs/5159794/Firearm_Manuals/P17_MANUAL.pdf Stay safe & have a great day!
Jimmy, the serial numbers in a weird spot. It's at the top, back of the grip right where it curves before going into the slide. So if you grip the pistol it's where the top arch of your hand goes. Hope this helps.
