I was in a gun shop this AM, they had the Kimber 9 mm evo with laser sights that were depressed by the middle finger under the trigger guard. Is this an upgrade?

Likely these Crimson Trace laser grips. Jyl, yes, believe you could purchase it straight from the factory with the laser or could purchase it separately later.
