Would same plane iron sight work effectively on here?  Not sure since the pic rail starts so far forward.  What would the sight picture be line that far forward?

Hi Fred and welcome. Same plane sights will work no issue since both rear and front sights will be equal height on the top rail. Cheers and stay safe!

Fred, yes, flip up iron sights will work fine on this gun.
