Hi Gerald and welcome. A semi-automatic shotgun with either a magazine capacity exceeding six rounds, a folding stock or a pistol grip. Pistol Grip kills it being a Semi-Auto. Details under Shotguns here : https://www.budsgunshop.com/feeds/state_reg/new_jersey_restrictions.pdf
Hi Gerald, Dictator Murphy says you can't have a pistol grip on any semi-auto shotgun, regardless of whether it has a detachable magazine or not. Here is one (a little more expensive) that I have (yes, I am a NJ resident) and is NJ legal. The grip is considered a thumbhole stock and not a pistol grip. https://www.budsgunshop.com/product_info.php/products_id/108599/rock+island+armory+black+anodized+12+ga+20+3+5+1+fixed+thumbhole+stock , . If you opt to go for a pump action shotgun, you can have a pistol grip and all the other 'evil' features that you can't have on a semi-auto shotgun. NJ restrictions here https://www.budsgunshop.com/feeds/state_reg/new_jersey_restrictions.pdf , Stay safe & have a great day!
