Hi Dan and welcome. No, a 444 Marlin is NOT just an elongated 44 Mag, even though they use the same bullets. The tapered chamber of the 444 will not support the base of a 44 Mag case. Don't do it. 44 Mag. or Special round can be chambered in a . 444 Marlin action, but the handgun cartridges are quite a bit shorter than the rifle cartridge, leaving ample space for the bullet to bounce around in the chamber and cause mischief before engaging the rifling.
