Well it seems worse the more I do that the action slide assembly flexes and it's not smooth. It catches at the rearward position. Also the safety switch is hard to push…

Hi Suszanne  and welcome. This is normal. When racking, there is a slide release button to push on the left side of the trigger guard to release the slide when not loaded. You should also lube the slide rails with a gun lubricant to smooth the pump action. Cheers and stay safe!

Suzanne, Mossberg's are not known for their smooth operating pump actions.  Lube & oil according to the instruction manual and it should get easier over time. The safety switch is normal, you need to apply some pressure to operate. All of my Mossbergs are the same way.
