Of course it can. I know I wouldnt want to be looking at a 12G barrel. You will be fine with this model and the Miculek model shoots great. Can hunt dove, duck, geese, turkey....shoot skeet and most of all protect your family.
It can be used Victor. i personally would choose the SPX due to better defense ergonomics. I would have no issue with either, but the SPX is setup more as a defensive weapon.
This is the Tactical model and I like it better then the SPX model.
The one nice thing about the SPX is that it has a picatinny rail that has the fiber optic sights. Which drives the price up.
Home defense ranges especially "in your home" dictate shorter, more maneuverable and faster handling firearms (especially shotguns). Longer barrels will be a hindrance if you have to clear corners and have a slightly higher chance your barrel getting hung up or grabbed.

This can be used for home defense, however, I would recommend The Mossberg 500 JIC 12ga. I think it is easy to handle, versatile, & perfect for home defense..
I think its great for both, but you can find many others that do the same thing with a lower price tag.
