A .410 will (with good self defense loads) be a very good home defense shotgun here is a Mossberg pistol grip model 500 pump that would be super https://www.budsgunshop.com/catalog/product_info.php/products_id/46401/Mossberg+500+CRUISR+410g+18+6SH+CB+PG or another here with full stock https://www.budsgunshop.com/catalog/product_info.php/products_id/46181/Mossberg+50359+HS410+410+18.5+SPREADER both would work great
The 410 will do for the recoil sensitive as long as you use the right loads/combination. I had a 410 and used a staggered load of 1st shot buck shot then slug etc. Most will say get bigger (and a case can be made), but the truth of the matter is most home defense firearms are handguns and the 410 is just as if not more effective.
Hi Shaun, Great firearm you and your mom will not be disappointed with this one.
That is my favorite gun to shoot! With the right load (shells) you can do some serious damage. No recoil, to the point I could shoot it all day long! Only bad thing is that a decent one is money. I mean, they all go bang, but a nicer model is a bit more then a 12GA. Its an outstanding home defense weapon! Don't need much aim, and easy to shoot.
