I have a brand new Berretta 1301 and need to know what type of ammo I can use to break in the gun? Also, what kind of slub should I use, riffled or ___________?

It should not require a "break in" just use Quality ammo. since the gun is a smoothbore you should have your best accuracy with Rifled slugs which are made for smoothbore shotguns. the Sabot slugs are made for rifled barrels and are (usually) not very accurate out of a smoothbore

Hi David and welcome. You should start out with 30 or so rounds of full power shells. Same with a medium velocity load. Finally a low power load. This will do two things as far as break in and load reliability testing. Clean and lube to remove any new metal to metal wear debris. You should use Foster Type Slugs in the smooth bore barrel for best results. Cheers and stay safe!

David, most of today's shotguns do not require a break in period. The owner's manual does not specify any break-in period, so you should be good to go. Just use quality ammo (Federal, Remington, etc) and you should have no problem.
As for slugs, you will want rifled (foster) type slugs, since this has a smoothbore barrel. The included improved cylinder choke will give best results for slugs.
