commander size grips will fit full size 1911 as the grip size are the same on them. safetys can play a part some ambidextrous safetys require a different cut on the top of the safety to allow the safety to be engaged if it has a magwell the grips are normally cut straight across the bottom to fit flush no mag well they have a bevel on the bottom to blend into the frame.
