How does the 4" handle recoil compared to the 4.6"? Is there that much of a difference to warrant a purchase of the 4.6" over the 4"?

Hi Rick, I don't think you would see much difference. The handgun weight will affect recoil more than the barrel length, and the weight difference is very minimal, 28.3oz to 27.8ox, only .5 ounce difference. 
What Impacts The Amount of Recoil?

Bullet weight
    Bullet velocity
    Propellant charge weight
    Handgun weight

Barrel length does have a minor effect on gun recoil, though isn't as big of a factor as the 4 things listed above. 
If you want the 4" because it is more concealable, then go for it.

Hi Rick and welcome. The advantages of the 4.6 inch barrel is 35fps to 50fps higher velocity with the same ammunition, a more complete powder burn before the bullet leaves the barrel resulting in less muzzle flash, more forward weight for reduced muzzle flip (although most may not register the practical difference).  There are more benefits but, we'll keep it simple with the basics. Cheers and stay safe!
