Hi Chris and welcome. The Barrel is actually 14.5 inches but is a total of 16 inches with the PINNED DEAD AIR FLASH HIDER which makes it the 16-inch rifle minimal length. Cheers and stay safe!

Hi Chris, The M4A1 is built around a 14.5 inch Cold Hammer Forged M4 Profile barrel with a permanently attached Daniel Defense Flash Suppressor. The pinned & welded flash suppressor counts toward the total length of the barrel, bringing it to 16" total. If a barrel is not at least 16", then it would be a short barrelled rifle and subject to registration and a $200 tax stamp. Since the flash hider is permanently attached, it count towards the total length. Stay safe & have a great day!
