In truth Brian, they are actually about equal in function and features. DPMS has been around a long time an know AR's. The Smith has been a force to be reckoned with since it's debut. I think this one boils down to personal preference Mine would be the Smith..

I have the smith and it has been flawless so my choice would be easy. another reason I chose the S&W is that DMPS is solely tied up in the AR/tactical world and I think that if times get hard they are more likely to go out of business than S&W (not that it matters much with a AR)
