in pure numbers everything being equal the 338 Lapua has about 2 times the recoil of a 308 or 30/06 the 8.85 lb weigh, good recoil pad and muzzle brake help a lot but it still has a little more recoil than the 308

Hi Thomas and welcome. This is going to be at a 28 gauge shotgun level or there abouts. A good muzzle brake can get it substantially down. Cheers and stay safe!
