what is the nato round measurement and can I buy a rifle that will fire.308 and the nato 7.62 round?
the 7.62 nato round is loaded to around 55000 psi and the .308 win cartridge is loaded to around 65000 psi. if you have a rifle proofed for the .308 win. then you are safe to fire both
The 308 and the 7.62 x 51 are essentially the same size with the 308 being loaded to higher pressure. The 7.62 x 39 is a different round entirely and much smaller. Any 308 will fire both 308 and 7.62 x 51 ammo but, the 7.62 x 39 will only fire 7.62 x 39 ammunition.

There are many rifles that will fire 308/7.62 Nato. Stick with American made ammo and you'll have no problems. The 7.62 Nato can be made to the top limit of it's head space dimension and not be a good fit in the 308. American manufacturers load it to fit. I had a guy with a 308 rifle wednesday that was having problems with some European 7.62 ammo. He showed up today with 308 winchester and had no problems.
