Either one will serve you well I went with the S&W mainly because I already has the M&P 15-22 ( I like S&W better than colt)

I'm partial to this one S&W M&P 311054LE. I love my colts but between the 2 for duty I'd stick with the M&P

Darrin, used to be there would be a big price discrepancy due to the "Colt" name with no real increase in functionality. Now with AR prices at historic lows, the S&W gives you a similar price with better standard furniture (functionality). So the decision boils down to "do you intend to keep the rifle as-is"). If yes, then the S&W is your rifle. If you plan on any customization, the the legendary Colt is the way to go.
