on the barrel is says 458 winchester mag. others are saying i can use the 458 Lott among others,,,,do i have to use only 458 winchester mag??

Only the mag. The Lott is not safe for this.

A .458 Win mag will chamber and fire in a .458 Lott. Just as a .38 Special will chamber and fire in a .357 Mag.  BUT NOT THE OTHER WAY AROUND. DO NOT TRY TO SHOOT A .458 LOTT IN A .458 WINCHESTER MAG.
