Hi Everett, first, take off the barrel shroud & handguard. Then if you lock the charging handle open, you will see the gas piston. Above the piston is a retainer where the split ring should go. Unscrew the top retainer nut, then slide the retainer down toward the piston. There should be a slot around the barrel where the split ring goes. Put the split ring into the slot, and pull the retainer up to hold it in place, and put the retainer screw back on to hold everything back in place.
