Hi Scott and welcome. It's a black oxide finish on the slide and barrel. Light reflects differently on the metal slide compared to the polymer frame. Cheers, stay safe and enjoy!

Hi Scott, both the barrel & slide have a Black Oxide finish. The grip frame is High-Performance, Glass-Filled Nylon. There is a slight difference in the color as seen on the Ruger web site here >>> https://ruger.com/products/max-9/specSheets/3518.html
