My personal choice would be the Sig 320CB9 (Verify Upgrade status) or the Ruger American Compact. They both are great pistols and have not exhibited any of the issues of the Steyr or M9A1.
Ruger SR-9C its what I carry every day 2 mags 1 10 rounder for carry and a 17 round with grip extension its reliable accurate and easy to shoot link https://www.budsgunshop.com/catalog/product_info.php/products_id/62288/Ruger+3314+SR9c+17%2B1+9mm+3.4
Why not look into a glock? They're reliable and very easy to do any repairs. I've never had to do repairs but I do add alot of upgrades to mine.
My Glock 26 has over 7,000 rounds through it with nary a problem. Accurate out to a 100 yd. silhouette.
for that barrel length i would go with a gen 5 glock 19
I'd recommend the S&W Shield it has a 3.1" barrel but is a reliable, easy to shoot firearm that is not ammo sensitive and it feels great in the hand. I just bought a second one for my wife and she hits whatever she puts the front sight on and she loves it. Right now you can't beat the price.
