Most likely Colt just omitted the lanyard loop for this model.

Hi Bruce and welcome. First, thank you for your Service. It was generally the A1 Army Colt Models that had the lanyard loop. I prefer the lanyard loop but seems the masses don't, and Colt seems to have obliged. Cheers, stay safe and enjoy!
