Hi Brenda, yes this rifle has a cross bolt safety. I think you will like this rifle, it is a nice little semi-auto .22 and very accurate. I have one and shoot it regularly. As for a case, it just comes in a cardboard box. The overall length is 36", so a 40" case will work.
