Hi Elbert, yes sir, 5.56mm and 5.56 NATO are the same round. You can shoot .223 in this rifle as well as 5.56. If the gun is rated for 5.56 you can shoot both calibers, if the gun is rated for.223, then you can only shoot .233 Stay safe & have a great day!

Hi Elbert and welcome. 5.56mm and 5.56 Nato are one and the same ammunition. Since this rifle is chambered in 5.56NATO, you can also shoot the lower pressure .223 ammunition no issue. Cheers, stay safe and enjoy!
