Hi Dave and welcome. This model is IL legal due to the threadless muzzle brake. The barrel is not threaded, and it is simply clamped on as shown separately here: https://store.springfield-armory.com/m1a-muzzle-brake-pliers/

Hi Dave, after further research, this model does not come with a suppressor. It comes with a muzzle brake, so it is Illinois complaint as is. It is not clamped on, as suggested below. A threaded barrel is not banned in either Illinois or CA. Stay safe & have a great day!
