Hi John, +P ammo is a type of ammunition that generates higher chamber pressure than standard cartridges, resulting in increased bullet velocity. If used all the time, +P ammo will result in more wear to your gun than normal. Most gun manufacturer's recommend using +P ammo sparingly. Then there is +P+, which generates more pressure than +P. Do not use +P+ unless the manufacturer says it is ok. If you are using the gun for defensive purposes, regular ammo will stop the threat just as well as +P ammo. Stay safe & have a great day!
Hi John and welcome. +P is ammunition that has been loaded with extra powder for more power. But there is a caveat. +P is a trade off in a less than 4-inch barrel. +P rounds are designed to completely burn the extra powder in 4 plus inches of barrel. You will not get the rated velocity increase you would think from this 3-inch barrel. More muzzle flash/ blast from the unburnt powder and only 50% the muzzle velocity increase compared to a 4 plus inch barrel. A quality standard pressure round will give faster and more accurate follow up shots, less muzzle flash/blast which will save your night sight and hearing more in a nighttime scenario of self-defense. Cheers and stay safe!
