Hi Steve, you are correct, it would be illegal with a stock, but this has a pistol brace. As of now, this is legal with the pistol brace. (Bud's listing says stock, but it is a pistol brace) You never know when the ATF will try to change it's interpretation of the law. They had banned it for a while, but it was overturned by the courts. Both 5.56 and .223 will function reliably in this gun. Stay safe & have a great day!
