The Forster 1.4696 .223 Field Headspace Gauge is used to evaluate rifle chamber headspace at the FIELD setting. Headspace is the distance between the breech face and the cartridge base when the action is closed, and confirming headspace helps support safe operation and consistent accuracy. A rifle that closes on a FIELD gauge is near the SAAMI maximum chamber size and may be dangerously over spec.
