Buds Gun Shop gets an A1 Plus from me. Talking about A1....I shoulda, I coulda, and I woulda...bought the plane Jane A1 field grade, but I did go for the promise of fiber optic sights. What I got, was not what was pictured, I got a fiber optic with no exposure to light. A hole in the front, a hole in the back, and metal all around. I doubt it will break in an accident, but the front sight is nearly invisible. I want to replace it, contacted Chiappa support and they wouldn't even tell me the make, or size, or anything I can work with, about the dovetail. So I ordered a Trijicon fiber optic rod, and will grind slits in the metal sight, so the fiber will get some light. The back sight is ok, even though it is the same design. Took it to the range, and it went bang. I suspect it is capable of tight groups, but because I couldn't get a sharp outline of the front sight, 8 rounds went in a 3 inch circle, even though I do holes in one with a CZ. I want to mount a Red Dot, but have no idea what size the dovetails are. Chiappa would neither confirm or deny that they a Novak style. Useless tech support. But, I can send it back, so they can 'fix' it. The finish of the gun, needs polish, around the safety. Feels like cast metal, kinda sharp. It works, but the paddles are large and get in the way. Not good. The feel and trigger are really special, best I ever had, and suspect being a 1911 has something to do with it. Crisp, appropriately light, , very short reset, this beauty is perfect for me. A big improvement over the Glock sponge. Love the balance and feel and grip of a 1911. Otherwise, the Chiappa does not wow me. I usually shoot 10mm and will get a 10mm 1911, giving Rock Island a try. And keep my Chiappa in .45ACP.
