Colt 1911 Government Classic Medusa .45 ACP Stainless Steel Pistol

Okay I didn't start...

Okay I didn't start out looking for this gun. At 1st glance I thought it was ugly as hell. Friends have described it as a 'Texas BBQ gun' or a 'Villian gun'. Perhaps it was the alcohol or distinct lack o' Xmas cheer but I ordered it. It arrives in a fancy-ish box within a box with supposedly combo like a briefcase. Anyway the gun in person is sealed in what could best be described as a vacuumed sealed bag you'd slap a very nice steak in - one side bubble-wrapped and the other just clear plastic so HOPEFULLY your FFL won't have to open to read & verify the SN. Mine didn't thankfully but eventually the irish whiskey got the better of me and a friend & I opened it within a week. Close examination and finger-banging later we noticed the 'Medusa' grips appear to come off like Scrimshaw but are just simply white plastic and to make matters worse, one side o' the grip - specifically 'Medusa's' 'hair' the black outline was smudged. BTW Medusa is supposed to have snakes for hair not actual hair...wtf. Anyway I painfully & carefully removed the grips to discover on the back in large letters it says HOGUE. I changed them to something else (Colt 24kt silver/gold grips) as I'm not greek and it goes better with the rest of the scrollwork. The plastic just cheapens the Texas BBQ look of the firearm IMHO. I tossed the Medusa grips in the box for when family sells my crap off when I die. Anyway, this gun has grown on me and I really like it. I'm sure one day soon I'll wear the 24kt plating off but until then it gets better looking everytime I pick it up. Also I got a 2 digit number outta 250 supposedly so that's kewl. Maybe 10 yrs from now some Colt nut will gimmie slightly more than I paid for it but until then it's a hellava conversation piece and sure makes my buddies eyes roll lol.
