This was admittedly an...
This was admittedly an impulse purchase, but I had wanted an M45A1 for a long time. With these regularly selling on GunBroker for more than $3,000, finding this one at a reasonable price felt like a great deal. It is important to note that the O1070M45 is not the Custom Shop version typically supplied in the green Pelican case. This is the standard-production M45A1. Out of the box, the pistol was tight but it has loosened slightly after being fired about 150 times-- which is normal and expected. Colt has NEVER EVER produced 1911s that were super tight so anyone who expects this is going to be let down. This particular pistol was manufactured on January 21, 2026. The Novak night sights are excellent and are bright and easy to see in low-light conditions. The decobond finish is amazing and burnt powder residue is easily wiped off with solvent-- at all like the cerakote versions that end up getting stained. The pistol uses Colt's Series 80 firing-pin safety system. Honestly, after tuning the springs, I cannot feel any meaningful difference in the trigger compared with my Series 70 Government Models. The rifling does appear somewhat shallower than the rifling in my 2021 Colt Government Model, although I have not noticed any related accuracy or reliability issues. This gun does function with Federal HST hollow points. The G10 Grips are super aggressive and I am able to keep the pistol secured to my hand very easily. The thumb safety does not engage with a pronounced audible or a tactile click, although disengaging it produces both. The safety half-cock notch can also be released by pulling the trigger, which suggests that the hammer does not have a pronounced negative cut at the notch-- this isn't an issue with series 80s but is still annoying. This gun also does have a very sharp edge around the ejection port and I was able to slice my finger open when I aggressively racked the slide. Looking at the fired brass, one can tell that the firing pin dents the primer off center. However this did not cause any ignition issues during firing. Most importantly, the pistol has been 100% reliable out of the box, with no feeding or functioning issues. This pistol gets 4 stars. I would recommend it to others. But getting a 5 star rating is requires it to truly be a 5 star pistol.

This was a total impulse buy that I didn't need. Always wanted one of the original USMC M45s, and of course you can't touch one for less than 4-5k these days. So this is the next best thing. Gun is well fitted, no rattles. Shoots well, at least as good as my older Colt rail gun. Don't know that the dual recoil spring lives up to the hype, it makes a minimal difference in felt recoil. First time at range I was making consistent center mass hits at 25 yards. Accuracy is what I expected from an 80 series government model. Nothing spectacular but you'll hit what you're shooting at if you have any skill. Runs flawlessly off Winchester white box and Remington green box ball and JHP ammo (while using Wilson Combat magazines). Didn't try the included factory mag, which I've heard may be a WC magazine, but doesn't have the tall plastic followers if it is. All in all I'd buy it again if the price was $500 cheaper.
