This is my 4th...
This is my 4th Tanfoglio-made EAA Witness in 10mm Auto from Buds: 2 full-sized 4.5 (both #999200), a 4.5 Witness Elite Stock II (#600615), and now this 4.5 Witness Elite Stock I (#600600). All are superb trouble-free pistols! Many tenderfoot buyers on this site obviously know little about handguns. Consequently, the EAA Witness often receives less-than-stellar reviews. Im here to set the record straight so heres Rule #1: The 10mm Auto is NOT a gateway cartridge! Most novice reviewers quickly expose their experience level, concerning: A). Sighting/point of impact problems. B). Jamming issues. C). Using .40 S&W ammo in their 10mm Auto. D). Their new gun looks used because its obviously been fired. First of all, the sights are centered on the pistol at the factory because no two individuals shoot in the exact same place (thats why they gave you a little hex wrench to adjust the sights). In the thousands of rounds Ive fired through my 4 Witnesses, Ive NEVER-EVER had a Failure-To-Feed, Failure-To-Fire, Failure-To-Eject, or Failure-To-Anything that wasnt my fault. These functional issues are almost always caused by the dreaded Limp Wrist Syndrome. The simple cure is to keep a stiff wrist so that the pistols recoil impulse isnt interrupted! Then there are the guys who (say they) shoot .40 S&W ammo in their 10mm . . . this is reckless, dangerous, and just plain stupid! And finally, all firearms manufactured in Europe must be proofed (look close and youll see several proof marks) . . . yes, your new Witness has been fired because thats the law in Europe! If youre a newbie to handguns, I suggest you start with something smaller and/or let a knowledgeable friend (or a certified NRA Instructor) teach you the ropes before you buy an Italian hand cannon. If you didnt already know, non-factory ammo & non-Tanfoglio parts may void your warranty. That said, the first thing youll need to replace is your underpowered 14 lb. factory recoil spring for a 22 pounder from Wolff (gunsprings.com). In the same little pack they also include an extra power firing pin spring so replace that as well (instructions are on the web). The 22 lb. recoil spring makes it harder to rack the slide but its absolutely necessary if youll be firing full-powered boutique ammo such as Underwood, Cor-Bon, Buffalo Bore, or DoubleTap. If you dont re-spring, your Witness will systematically beat itself to death! To be sure, this pistol is so under-sprung from the factory that a new 22 lb. recoil spring will function perfectly even with so-called 10mm Lite ammo (which is pretty much all ammo brands not listed above). Also, the installation of the extra power firing pin spring will kinda lessen the effects of the firing pin dragging across the primer during recoil. All 4 of my Witnesses do it so get used to it! The final annoyance is that your Witness will eject spent cases into low earth orbit even with the heavier recoil spring. Good luck finding all of them! One more thing. The new magazines will only (reliably) hold 13 rounds. You can sometimes get 14 into them but they can't be locked into the pistol. Basically, it's 13 1. Admittedly, these Tanfoglio-made pistols had a few teething problems such as poor magazines and cracked frames. Without going into the ugly truth (and another paragraph), all of these glitches were resolved years ago. Whats left is the strongest 10mm Auto ever made due to its tight chamber (supports the case head), ramped barrel, and all-steel construction. I recently had the displeasure of touching off a mega-overpressure round from Underwood . . . without so much as a Glock Smile (bulged case). If Id fired this same errant round in my Glock 20, I would have surely suffered a catastrophic KABOOM. Strength & safety are undeniable hallmarks of the EAA Witness! I have my Nevada Concealed Weapon Permit and the all-steel Witness series is my chosen carry gun. Yes, its big but nothing that a waist pack (in the summer) or shoulder rig (in the winter) cant handle. I also like the idea that it will go BANG every time I pull the trigger. Its low bore axis & heavy weight reduces muzzle flip, felt recoil, and recovery time. Need more convincing? This full-sized all-steel 4.5 Stock I (and my other 3 Witnesses) has exceptional ergonomics, kicks no more than a .357 Magnum revolver, has a better trigger pull than any striker-gun on the planet, and is tighter than my granddaughters shrunken jeans. Unfortunately, EAA doesnt give you a 2nd magazine! However, both my Stock II and now this Stock I came with a really nice Negrini lockable hardshell case with extra goodies. I hope this helps to clear up a few issues.

5 Stars for the pistol...
5 Stars for the pistol itself. Couldn't really ask for anything more. Minus 1 star for the magazine capacity on these actually being 14 (it's published everywhere as 15+1, EAA themselves confirmed it was only 14+1). Minus 1 star for SLOWWWW buds processing/shipping.
