Ok first things first,...

Ok first things first, there are the expensive/ custom 5-star 1911s out there and then there's $629 5-star 1911s. The Girsan MC1911 UL might not be in the 1911 big leagues with them but, (so far) it's in the running to be a champ in economy division. I think I got a pretty darn good gun for my money here. I'll try to go over as much as I can here to help you out.. I'll go over the sights, accuracy, bells & whistles ect below. \r \r Sights: \r I've had it out a few times now, once with the stock sights it came with and the rest with a red dot optic. Despite being very accurate right out of the box the stock sights are not great. At the well lit range and outdoors they weren't an issue but, the black notch and black post would be pretty much near invisible in low light situations. With my aging eyes an upgrade was a must. I opted for a red dot and do not regret it. It only took about 10 minutes and was a breeeze to switch out the sights for the optic with the pre-machined slide and included mounting plate, a really nice and welcome addition to this gun. \r \r Accuracy/ Performance: \r Yeah, the stock sights are Ok if you have perfect eyesight and have ideal lighting conditions. I really thought they needed an upgrade and I do not regret that decision. I'm no sharpshooter but, after sighting in the red dot I was putting everything in the 9 and 10 rings at 10 yards and shooting tight groups out to 25 yards. Accuracy is not a problem with this gun, it's going to be more accurate than the majority of the shooters that will take it through its paces. And that trigger.... oooh baby! That that trigger is sweet, coming in at just about 4lbs I immediately fell in love with it! As far as recoil and that goes, the weight of this gun at just over 1.5lbs is hefty enough despite its small size that honestly, recoil wasn't issue for me. Obviously this is not a beginner's firearm but, if you can handle a small snappy 9mm, this wouldn't be too much more. \r \r Build Quality and Extras:\r I've only put about 100 rounds through it but, so far it seems like a well put together gun. Giving it a good shake nothing rattles and the slide operates smoothly. Though right out of the box that spring is really stiff and takes a really good pull to rack that slide but, it seems to be loosening up. Its got an ambidextrous safety great for the southpaws out there but, only the typical left side mag release. The g-10 grips are alright, they provide a positive grip surface but, they're hard and bit sharp you really feel them after going through a box of ammo. Personally I think I'm going to switch them to a softer rubberized grip. But really that and the sights are the only issues I've had keeping this gun from being perfect for "me", not too bad. If you're not going to be shooting this gun a lot, I honestly don't think the grips will be too much of an issue. Now speaking of the grips, the last thing I'll talk about is the window in the grips. I guess that's a nice bit of "window" dressing but, I've been shooting nearly 50 years and not being able to look at the grip of my gun (that only holds six rounds) and see how many shots I have left has never been an issue I felt needed addressing. Maybe if the gun held 20-30 rounds it'd be something I thought was important but, I can usually count to six even under duress. But maybe I'd think it was a lot cooler if the mags with the window in them (which you need) didn't cost like 50 bucks. It's really the only bell and or whistle that this gun has that it really doesn't need or improve it... I guess maybe they just thought it looked cool or would make it sell better. \r It's really unnecessary .\r \r Other than a couple minor personal things, i think this is a pretty good gun, especially for the dough.
