Product Overview
The Heckler & Koch USP V1 is a full-size .40 S&W semiautomatic pistol built around a durable fiber-reinforced polymer frame with stainless steel inserts in high-stress areas. Its double-action/single-action operating system incorporates a left-side frame-mounted manual safety and decocking lever for accessible controls. A patented recoil reduction system helps reduce stress on the pistol and felt recoil across a wide range of ammunition. The pistol has a 4.25-inch barrel, fixed three-dot sights, a polymer grip, and a 13+1 capacity.

I always wanted a USP....
I always wanted a USP. I found them to be overly expensive, years have passed by and finally decided to give it a go. Once I received it, I immediately noticed that the grip was thick. Thicker than I would have liked, after all, im used to the suave style of the Walther PDP and PV9. However, not only is the grip thick, its also a very thick pistol. Some may call it bomb proof, i call it unpractical. Quickly dismissing it, knowing that its a .40 cal pistol, also noticed that the double action was heavy. I mean VERY heavy. Let me tell you that my PTr-91 rifle (7.62x51) has less heavier pull. Okay these two things are already bothering me. Regardless, I paid good money and I was hoping that the shooting experience was going to redeem all of my worries. Also the description on the page states "Interchangeable Backstrap Grip". Im sorry but that isnt true! what grips!? do you buy them separately? they were none in my case! So, the shooting? oh.. yeah. It was loud. Louder than a standard 9mm anyhow, and I was using a training & range ammo so I wasnt expecting a hot load performance. The recoil? also heavy. In fact, twice as heavy as that of my 9mm Walther PDP (long slide). So whats going on here? Where is the so called legendary status of the USP? Its an HK so surely something has to be good? ahh yes! the accuracy! I only shot at 11 yards but it seems, that when taking your time the weapon is deadly accurate. Unfortunately, to get precise shots you either need to be VERY experienced in double action or have the hammer cocked down so the trigger pull isnt so bad. I wasnt even going to try rapid shooting as I dont want to have a broken wrist. This is a weapon from several decades ago, and it shows. Today you can get something much.. much better! I hate to say it, but this pistol isnt it. Im giving it 2 stars out of 5, shootability is subpar, the ergonomics are classic HK but the size of the weapon, the incredibly heavy pull and the weight brings this beast down a few good scores. I will say that its built like a tank. No rattles but unfortunately, it doesn't stand the test of time in my book. I will be selling it back to Budsgunshop for some store credit and get something more effordable, modern and pleasant to shoot. You have been warned!
