A: I would try different mags, but if you aren't seeing any improvements in reliability on your next range trip or two, I'd call Kimber. Make sure you're using oil for lube, not grease. I've been there, it's frustrating when a new gun doesn't perform well out of the box.

A: a lot of 1911s take 400-500 rounds before they are broken in I suggest shooting another 250 or so rounds of Ball ammo the 3 inch guns are even more ammo picky. also not having a firm grip (limp wristing) can cause stoppages with the 1911s. another thing to check is if your thumb is riding on the slide as this is another common cause

A: Hi James, this is kinda surprising especially with the ball ammunition. Since you have stripped and cleaned the firearm, I would have a friend shoot it just to see if they get the same result. I would re-evaluate at the 500rd mark as well. These kinds of FTF should resolve themselves after around 500rds. If after that, it still runs the same, then it will be time for Kimber to service this pistol.

A: Hi James, Kimbers are well known for these FTF issues. It is normal. The break in is 400-500 rounds. I own 11 Kimbers myself and always have the same break in.

A: Kimber has a bad reputation for FTFs and is why you do not see them in any serious competitive shooting. The magazines are usually the culprit so I'd get some quality magazines like Wilson Combat and adjust the extractor before i gave up on it. Also these little guns have a very stiff recoil spring to enhance feeding so gripping it very firmly will help. Good luck.
