Don't like buying a...
Don't like buying a firearm without handling first, so I approach the purchase of the American Classic II in 38Super carefully. Was able to look at the .45 caliber guns locally, and found them of good quality, so I went ahead and purchased from Bud's. I have not been disappointed in any way, and am very pleased with the purchase! The gun appears to be stainless steel due to the hard chrome finish, and the slide is tight and well fitted. The trigger is acceptable, with a short first stage, a little wobble top to bottom, and just the hint of a second stage; it breaks cleanly and consistently, probably at about 4.5# or a little higher. The trigger face is nicely stippled. Grouping with Armscor 38Super rounds was acceptable out of the box, although it shoots slightly low and left from POA. It has a Novak style rear sight that I will probably replace with an adjustable sight at some time. It has some nice perks for any 1911; extended slide stop, extended safety, extended beavertail, skeletonized hammer and trigger. There is no stipling on the front of the grip, so I added a Pearce grip immediately. I also replaced the MecGar blue steel single magazine included with the purchase with the same one in nickel plated -- it just looks nicer with a matching baseplate. Overall, a nice 1911 addition to the collection. Be sure to take a towel with you to look at any American Classic, as they are loaded with preservative, and plan on a full cleaning and lubrication before you shoot it!

I experienced feeding...
I experienced feeding problems with my Metro Arms American Classic in .38 Super. I shot 300 rounds of Aguila .38 SUPER P 125 gr. FMJ and 300 rounds of Armscor .38 SUPER 125gr. FMJ ammo.I used factory magazine that came with gun, plus 2 Metalform & 1 Chip McCormick magazines. I've tried numerous combinations and had chronic feeding issues. They all fed a single cartridge with no issues 90% of the time. As soon as I add more than one cartridge I get failures to feed: 1. The cartridge did not get picked up by the forward movement of the slide, and the slide would hang up. 2. The cartridge would get picked up by the slide and only partially enter the chamber. A rap on the back of the slide would usually press the round into battery. I sent my gun to J.G.E., 156 CR 305, Lott, TX (one of the Eagle Imports warranty providers), for repair. Sent it off on Wednesday, got it back on Friday, test fired it on Saturday. It works great and I had ZERO malfunctions of any kind regardless of magazine or ammo combinations used. My only real complaint is the $67.67 I had to pay FedEx to ship the firearm. JGE was outstanding to deal with. I called him on Thursday when I got the email from UPS telling me my firearm was on the way back. John R. explained to me what he found and what he did to fix my gun and how it functioned during final test firing. A true professional. Very pleased in the warranty work and customer service. if my gun functioned out of the box as well as it functions now, my rating would be a full-blown GOOD instead of one notch lower.
