I purchased a Rock...
I purchased a Rock Island 1911 GI in 10mm last week. When I took it to the range, I was surprised to find that I couldn't hit an 8-inch plate from 15 yards, not even once, despite firing several magazines. This was unexpected because I usually have no trouble hitting 8-inch plates with my other firearms, including my other 1911s. The officers at the Sheriff's range offered me a target and sandbags to check the gun's accuracy. Sure enough, the gun was shooting at least 8 inches low and 2 inches to the right, grouping about 2 inches across from 15 yards. The instructors at the range confirmed my findings, and I've attached their results. Initially, we considered adjusting the windage, but we discovered that the rear sight is part of a fixed plate that protrudes visibly on the left side, which means there is no way to adjust the windage. Since the gun was shooting low, our only options were to either change the front sight to a shorter one or file down the existing front sight. However, this would not solve the windage issue. I didn't want to void the warranty, so I contacted Armscor to make a warranty claim, but I have yet to hear back from them. To the best of my understanding, this particular weapon is defective and should ideally be replaced by Armscor. For those considering purchasing this handgun, please be aware that the windage of the rear sight cannot be adjusted. On a positive note, the gun fired reliably, the recoil was manageable, and it cycled the cartridges just fine.
