The SIG Sauer P224 Extreme is a subcompact double-action/single-action pistol chambered in .40 S&W and built for concealed carry or backup use. Its 3.5-inch barrel and compact 6.7-inch overall length make it easy to carry while retaining the familiar SIG Sauer manual of arms used by the P226 and P229. The pistol features a black hard-anodized aluminum frame, a Nitron-finished slide, black and gray Hogue Extreme Series G-10 grips, and SIGLITE night sights. Its 10+1 capacity uses a flush-fit magazine, while compatibility with newer P229 magazines allows the user to carry a larger spare magazine. The DA/SA trigger system includes SIG Sauer's Short Reset Trigger for a shorter reset during follow-up shots. Factory standard models do not include an accessory rail or optics-ready slide.
