Smith & Wesson M&P 40 Performance Center Ported 10219 .40 S&W Pistol

I ordered this M&P40...

I ordered this M&P40 because I liked the features and didn't have a dedicated .40 pistol in my collection. After having shot the pistol, I can say that I really do like it. I love the look of the gun, with its ported barrel and the lightening holes cut in the slide. The fiber optic sights are quick to pick up and bring on target. I also like having a full size .40S&W pistol with a 15-rd magazine capacity. The interchangeable back-straps are nice, as they allow me to customize the grip to my individual hand size. The barrel porting does help to reduce muzzle rise, though not as much as some people claim. Disassembly, cleaning, and reassembly are a snap. The one compliant that I can register - and one that is pretty common with M&P owners - is the gritty take-up during the trigger pull. It's just awful. The trigger break itself is very nice; it's just getting to that break point that makes you cringe. I can probably smooth it out with some targeted polishing, but I shouldn't have to do this on a Performance Center gun. It will definitely make me think twice before purchasing another PC item. Oh well, YouTube here I come. Had the gritty trigger take-up not been present, I might have given this pistol a rating of 5.
