FIRST OFF: couple things in the description of the Ranger are wrong. This is in fact a STI RANGER, but instead of the model II, it is the Model III, indicated only by the "SFS." the SFS is a safety system that allows you to carry in condition one, safety engaged, with the hammer forward. You rack the firearm and push the hammer forward until the safety clicks into place. Then when you draw, you thumb the safety down and the hammer is spring loaded into ready to fire position. So, that's pretty much the only difference between the RANGER II and III. That and the this III indeed comes with a ambi safety not a single sided safety as noted in the description. That being set straight, this is one fine piece of machinery. I can't believe the quality and fit of this gun. I have drooled over STI firearms for quite some time, but being a fan of the some what original 1911 design I opted for this. It has blown away my expectations in every way. Nothing feels cheap on this, the grips are slim, allowing you to get an even better grip on the chain link front strap checkering. The finish is beyond good, I've come to expect with blued pistols, you either get great results or nasty results, STI hit it out of the ball park. The RecoilMaster system seems to dampen recoil quite effectively, STI claims they are good for up to 20k rounds. Time will tell. The only con is the recoil system is kind of a PITA some times to get off, but if you watch their YouTube vid, you'll see just how easy it can be. No real cons for this gun, or any disappointments for that matter. I actually prefer the RANGER III over the II anyway, so it was pure win for me! You can not go wrong with any STI. Their customer service and quality control is TOP NOTCH! In fact if you go to their Facebook page and ask a question during normal business hours you'll get a same day response, sometimes within an hour. Can't say enough about this company. Just awesome.
