A: Bobby, The transfer bar is a piece of steel that goes between the hammer and the firing pin after the trigger is pulled. The way the parts are designed, the hammer cannot hit the firing pin unless the transfer bar is there and if the trigger is at rest, the bar is withdrawn. A: A transfer bar is basically a safety mechanism. It is a piece of material that goes in between the firing. It basically blocks the hammer from hitting the firing pin and discharging the cartridge.

A: When you pull the trigger the transfer bar moves between the hammer and the firing pin. The hammer strikes the transfer bar which transfers the energy to the firing pin. If the trigger is not pulled the transfer bar is not in position between the hammer and firing pin and the hammer will not contact the firing pin this allows you to safely carry a revolver with a loaded cylinder under the hammer
