I love this rifle. I have used it in 2012 so far to kill a buffalo and an elk in Wyoming. Both shots were off-hand and between 250-300 yards. It took only one round to drop each animal. The 300 Win Mag BLR certainly packs a punch, as my experience proves. Whether or not it is "overkill" is an interesting question, but one that I don't worry about. Is this a heavy rifle to carry in the field? Yes, but it handles well. Personally, I don't mind having to haul an extra pound or so, as long as the rifle shoots true and drops game in its tracks. Bottom-line, Bud's Gun Shop was great to work.
