A: I like the 270 for whitetail deer but its hard to knock the .308

A: Ben, a 30 Cal would be the most versatile but, the 270 is plenty cartridge if whitetail and small boars are your main quarry. I would vote 270 in your case as they will be just as dead with lower recoil across the board.
