The CMMG MkW-15 XBE2 is a semi-automatic .458 SOCOM rifle built around a Mk3-derived PowerBolt system and a lower receiver designed to accept standard AR15 magazines. It combines a 16.1-inch 416 stainless steel barrel with a 1:14-inch twist, a CMMG SV muzzle brake, and an SLR adjustable gas block for tuning the rifle to different loads. A Geissele SSA trigger, Magpul furniture, six-position stock, and optic-ready receiver complete the practical XBE2 configuration.

Although the CMMG...
Although the CMMG MKW-15 XBE2 Anvil 458 SOCOM is an intriguing variation of the AR platform and designed well (notably proper bolt design for this powerful cartridge), the execution was quite mediocre. For a weapon priced at nearly $2,000, the manufacture of this firearm was sloppy. Too much slop between the upper and lower as well as too much slop between the buffer tube and the Magpul CTR buttstock indicate a lack of attention to details one would expect in a firearm at this price point. Both POF and Daniel Defense rifles, no matter the model, do not suffer from this sloppiness in fitment. Moreover, the anodized finish seems cheap and not very durable - again, lower in quality than one finds in POF and DD rifles. Finally, in my opinion, selecting a keymod handguard over an M-rail was another mistake in the execution of this rifle. The 458 SOCOM cartridge deserves a higher quality rifle to showcase its power.
