This is by all accounts an excellent rifle for the money. It is essentially the CZ457 Lux with a plain beechwood stock as opposed to a Turkish walnut one. The added benefit of this particular threaded version of the training rifle is that you can mount a suppressor, although you will likely need a thread converter to change from the 1/2x20 it comes with to 1/2x28 most American rimfire suppressors use. Overall, the rifle is very accurate, features a very smooth action (especially after shooting a couple hundred rounds through it), handles very well, and is of excellent build quality. The iron sights are very good on it, but it could do with a slightly narrower front post. On smaller targets or longer ranges, the post is thick enough to make fine shot placement more difficult, but the sights are still very good. One of the features that makes the iron sights so good is the rear tangent sight which features sliding adjustments for 25 to 200 yards in 25-yard increments. When using standard velocity ammunition such as CCI Standard Velocity, the increments seem pretty accurate having tested it up to 100 yards. The rifle came sighted in perfectly straight out of the box. The stock, while made of relatively inexpensive beechwood, is still very nice. There are no rough edges on it, and all of the lines flow gracefully. While the stock lacks any form of checkering (going along with the beechwood to further reduce cost), I have no issues keeping a grip on it, though I would imagine it might be a problem for those with sweaty hands. The schnabel forend is greatly appreciated both from an aesthetic standpoint and for the fact that it provides something sturdy to grip onto for those with longer arms. It should be noted that the stock is designed specifically with the excellent iron sights in mind and has a rather low cheek comb. This brings your eyes directly in line with the sights without having to smash your face into the stock, allowing for rapid and natural sighting. However, this comes at a cost to scope performance. It may be difficult to get a good cheek weld to properly use a scope, but it is still possible (though its arguably more of a chin weld than a cheek weld). I temporarily had a scope mounted for use as a squirrel rifle and was able to do so successfully, but I ultimately decided the rifle was much more at home using the iron sights. Despite being beechwood, the stock feels very solid. The trigger came excellent right out of the box, but features adjustments for creep, weight, and overtravel that anyone could do with a Youtube video and some tools. However, I haven't found the need to adjust the trigger. The barrel comes fully free floated, and the length significantly helps with keeping noise down. Even without a suppressor, it is arguably hearing safe and definitely good for hunting. Small game animals were scarcely alarmed when shooting standard velocity rounds, and I even had squirrels pause when shot at, as they appear to have been unable to determine if it was a gunshot or a particularly loud branch snapping. The rifle is plenty accurate, getting around 1 MOA with mid-grade ammo. It should be noted the rifle only comes with an 11mm dovetail for a scope base, but aftermarket picatinny rails (like those produced by Area 419) exist to allow you to use whatever scope rings you may desire or already have. Overall, it is an excellent rifle for the money and would serve wonderfully as a plinker, small game hunting rifle, or (as the name might suggest) a rifle for training the fundamentals of marksmanship using inexpensive .22 LR ammo.

This 457 Training...
This 457 Training variant with the excellent tangent open sights (just like those on the Lux) is no longer generally available new in the US, and it was never common with a threaded barrel here. I'm so glad Bud's got this special shipment in. Essentially, this is a threaded Lux but in a "plain Jane" beechwood stock. Beech stocks may not be fancy but they are plenty durable, and actually a bit more dense than walnut. On my first range trip, after adjusting the sights and fouling the bore I was able to shoot a 199/200 at 25 yd. on an A23/5 small-bore target; wonderful accuracy out of the box. This is a superb adult-sized rifleman's 22 with a high quality adjustable trigger; if you put function over appearance it is also a rare and excellent value. If you shoot suppressed, don't be put off by the 1/2x20 Euro-standard threads because adapters to 1/2x28 are easily available. Also, the rear site is easily removed if you wish to mount a scope that doesn't clear it. As always in my experience, Bud's was excellent to deal with. I am sorely tempted to buy a second while they're available. Highly recommended!
